Choose the right Hair Topper

Choose the right Hair Topper Placeholder

A hair topper is an efficient way of solving the problem of hair thinning or hair loss. A properly selected model will help you restore thickness and volume locally without having to wear a wig.

Choosing a topper isn’t more difficult than choosing a wig. The main thing is to choose the right color of the hair, and the right shape and size of the cap base. Here are a few simple steps to choose your perfect topper.

   1. DETERMINE THE STAGE OF HAIR LOSS

This will give you a better insight into the criteria for selecting the base design and the topper attaching method.

INITIAL HAIR LOSS STAGE

You notice the first signs of hair thinning. In such a case, the cap base of the topper can be made of any material. The size and shape of the topper base should be selected to match the particular area that needs to be covered. It is preferable and more convenient that it is attached with clips.

PROGRESSIVE HAIR LOSS STAGE

Hair failing out grows progressively worse and the area of its thinning increases in size, but your own hair is partially preserved. At this stage, you should opt for a product with a base made from most delicate materials. The size of the base must allow it to cover the whole top area of your head. Depending on the design of the base, it may be attached to the head either with clips or with glue or adhesive tape, or there may be a combination of these methods of attachment.

ADVANCED HAIR LOSS STAGE

Hair is completely missing in the top area of your head. It is advisable to use topper with a soft base with addition of some silicone elements. You should select the maximum size of the base that will cover the entire top area, crown area, and partially the sides of your head. All applicable methods of fixation are used to attach hairpiece, depending on what it is attached to in a particular area. If your own hair is missing in the area where the topper has to be attached with a clip, you can carefully cut off the clip from the base and add double-sided adhesive tape in its place.

   2. DETERMINE THE LOCATION OF THE PROBLEM AREA

Most hair toppers are manufactured specially for a particular area of the head. Their shape and hairs distribution method are designed in such a way that they duplicate the natural positioning and behavior of hair in that part of the scalp. It may be the front hairline, the parting area, the top area, or the entire crown area.

   3. TAKE THE MEASUREMENTS

Take the measurements of the area that needs to be covered, in the direction from the forehead to the back of your head and from one ear to the other. Write down the results.

Take repeated measurements approximately once every 6 months to determine in good time if it is necessary to replace the topper.

   4. SELECT THE PRODUCT

After you have made up your mind about the cap base type and the hairpiece design, and taken the necessary measurements, proceed directly to selecting a particular product.

Focus on choosing the base size. The right size will allow you to position and attach the hair piece comfortably, avoid its dislocation in the process of use, and prevent injuring your scalp and your own hair.

If the topper is attached with clips it must have ample allowance of the base size covering 2-5 cm of your own hair at each side. It must be attached in those areas where you have a sufficient amount of your own hair. If the base size is a borderline one, select the larger hairpiece.

The hair color of the topper is very important for the final result because onlookers will see the product’s hair and your own hair at the same time. The information presented on this page will assist you in selecting the color.

The topper’s hair must be slightly shorter than your own hair. In such a case, you will be able to mix the hair uniformly and achieve the optimum appearance. Measure your hair from the roots to the ends and select an appropriate product. You can cut the product’s hair shorter if necessary.
